Too often, customization in residential development boils down to a limited choice of pre-approved options. What buyers really want is for their dreams to be brought to life, and one recent project where that occurred was Casual Elegance, a renovation designed by Beyond Beige Interior Design and made possible by Goldcon Construction.

Family-run Goldcon — which won a Georgie Award for Best Condo Renovation Over $250,000 for the project — has over 20 years of combined staff experience and is known for its quality and workmanship. Goldcon Construction went into this particular North Vancouver–based project knowing its empty nester clients felt the contemporary style of the original design was too cold. “It was extremely important for them to have the main areas specifically to entertain the family for special occasions,” says project manager Kaveh Goldan.

The new design used materials with warmer tones mixed with coastal farmhouse details to maintain a cozy yet airy feel. The kitchen and dining area were redesigned to create the ultimate gathering experience. A mudroom was added by combining a study and storage room. The unique office space was painted a moody charcoal hue and augmented by a black-framed French door. Ensuite details were chosen to create a more elevated, spa-like space.

Many other ingredients went into the Casual Elegance renovation, such as shiplap cladding to diminish ceiling details and strengthen high-traffic wall areas; and designer appliances and plumbing fixtures throughout the home. Goldcon also removed the tub in the main bathroom and installed a walk-in shower for ease of cleaning and guest bathing.

Goldan notes, “It’s one thing to reimagine a living space, but it takes an experienced contractor to make it happen, and that’s where we excel. Many of our clients are middle- to high-end homeowners and expect true customization; we cater not only to home buyers, but also those selling their homes who wish to renovate in order to stand out from the crowd. This is in addition to building dream homes for select clients based on their specifications.”

While Goldcon has won many awards in the past, this is its first Georgie win, and Goldan is grateful for the honour. “Now we have a gold statue that matches our name, and it feels good to be recognized,” he says. “Meanwhile, we have lots of projects lined up, and that will allow us to continue to do what we enjoy best: getting the job done and creating homes that clients can truly call their own.”
